Pizza @ Toscana

Yesterday we headed to my favorite pizza place 'Toscana' which has been number 1 on " my best pizza in Dubai " list. Toscana is located at Madinat Jumeirah. I just love the atmosphere at Madinat Jumeirah, designed like a traditional Arabic souk, it totally takes you back in time... My daughter loves the  souvenir shops with the miniature Burj Khalifas & Burj Al Arabs. Sand artists display their art work and loads of touristy things to do there...

We were at Toscana by 8p.m, and were surprised to find  the outdoor seating full, in spite of it being a weekday!! I wonder why people are not at home, and then realized that they must be looking at me and thinking the very same thing..:-).

Toscana is located by the waterside. It's a lovely view from the restaurant and its best to be seated outdoors in the winter months. The waiter told us we would have to wait for a table outside and since we needed to head home by 10pm we took the table indoors.

We ordered a vegetarian pizza, "Pizza Toscana" - Eggplant, sun dried tomato, black olives and fresh basil. My daughter got busy with coloring and we waited in anticipation for the pizza to arrive.

The pizza came in about 10 min and my husband was ready to pounce on it. I had to ask him to wait till I took a picture of it, but he was impatient as ever and I couldn't get a great shot!

Crispy and sinfully thick with fresh cheese and basil, this pizza is delicious. I generally do not like eggplant but it tastes real good on this pizza.

The pizza is expensive at Dhs 65 but a once in a while indulgence on something this yummy is absolutely okay!

I will not give it a 5/5 as the portion size has reduced over time and seems a little overpriced now.

The Tiramisu here alone is worth the trip, comes in a small cup and is the best I have tasted.

P.S- A few friends suggested that I should add more pictures in my blog and I've done that...hope you all like it! :-)

Pizza @ Carluccios

Friday mornings always begin with a rush to the door by me and my husband for getting our hands on the 'Friday' magazine by Gulf News.He loves to look through the section on cars and travel and I love to look out for fashion trends and new recipes. The last issue had an article on the Italian chef and restaurateur Antonio Carluccio. A very inspiring article of Mr.Carluccio who once worked as a painter and salesman and later in life realized his true passion lay in cooking. He followed his dream and made it big in life.

I decided that I must try a  pizza at Carluccios and headed to the branch in Mirdiff city centre.Carluccios is located at the first floor and has simple interiors. To my daughters delight, the waitress came with a box of
crayons and an activity paper. Its always tough to keep her entertained when we are out for dinner, and this was
great..my child was entertained and I was eagerly waiting to sink my teeth into a good pizza. We ordered Rustica, which is a new addition to their vegetarian option. The pizza was made of mozarella and fontina cheese, and came with roasted potatoes. We ordered some sun dried tomatoes as an extra topping. The pizza was a bit bland as if it missed something, can't put my finger on what exactly ...poured in some chilli oil to spice it up a bit, but it didn't work. The pizza was okay and could be a lot better, must try some different pizza the next time!!!

Pizza @ Vapiano Dubai

Had been to Vienna two weeks back and had a wonderful holiday....we stayed near the WestBanhof station. To our delight there was a Pizza place at the station which served the travelers as well as office goers...Vapiano..The settings and the atmosphere inside that place was something we had not seen before. Apparently it is a chain that is spreading its wings across the globe and is advertised as a after work ritual. The Westbhanof place catered efficiently to streams of people coming in after work as well as those using the train terminal...We visited Vapiano's twice during our stay at Vienna. It
was really good  . We tried the Pizza Brushetta and Rucoli - good choices in vegetarian with very fresh ingredients - thin crust as it should be and soft with fresh cheese.

I was going through the Groupon deals last week and  came across a deal for Vapiano at Dubai. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Vapiano was present in Dubai as well at 2 locations - Dubai mall and Media city. I purchased coupons off Groupon for the media city Vapiano and headed out there. Did our google search for the place, and surprisingly reached the place without any hitches - probably because the place was close to where my husband worked, though he had no clue it was that
close. We Went on a weekday so no crowd at all.The place is huge, good seating both inside and outside.
Vapiano pizza dubai
Every table has a potted basil plant (The Vienna one had rosemary as well) - can't get fresher than that!!! Each table also comes with one bottle each of Olive oil, Balsimic vinegar and Chilli oil.

We stuck to our usual vegetarian affair - Rucoli and found that it tasted pretty good, fresh cheese and thin crust..the way we like it.. much the same as the one in Vienna - which is good news. Definitely worth a second or third visit. !!

How it all began...

I have always loved pizzas but it was always the 'pizza hut' pizzas which I used to eat and I thought that there could be nothing better than that....Well, that was until my then would be husband (we have been married 5yrs since) changed my belief..He had traveled to Italy after we got engaged and survived on pizzas during his stay there .That opened his eyes to a whole new world of pizzas. He fell in love with them and since I was in love with him..I wanted to love what he loved..and well the rest is history..!

We moved to Dubai in 2008 and it was in 2009 that we had our first 'Best pizza in Dubai'. We now have a list of pizza places we have visited and we rate  them. My husband is a vegetarian and we mostly try out veggie pizza's but if I have company to share a pizza I try the non-veg options too..So let me get back to our Bestest pizza ever.... It was on Sep 12th  that we had this out of the world pizza( I remember the date clearly cos that's my birth date .My husband would surely forget it , well cos 'it is my birthdate'!!! He makes it a point to forget it u see !!)

It was at a restaurant called 'Toscana' at Madinat Jumeira. That pizza was so crazily delicious...that we go back there too often  (I wish they would give out some sort of membership card for loyalty :-)) .We  are regular faces there now and each time we visit there the pizza tastes just that damn good....We decided to explore more and broaden our horizons...and the search is on...

We have graduated from the pizza hut days ( No offence Pizza Hut !!!) and now are on the quest for  thin , juicy , delicious, mouth watering , fantabulous authentic Italian pizzas....I look out for offers and get information from reviews on the newspapers and internet and by the weekend have a target for a place to try. There have been times when we have taken hours to find a place..
We google the location but since I and hubby are experts at map reading (I'm being sarcastic here!!) we reach there after a lot of effort..My hubby drives and I navigate ( He claims that as the reason for getting lost most of the time...but i would rather not comment on it ) :-) Nothing can deter us and all the effort is worth it for a yummy pizza. He is now considering investing in a GPS so that we can get to satisfy our taste buds faster !

Welcome all Pizza Lovers!

Do you live in Dubai and are you a pizza lover like I am and are you on the search for the most delightful , divine, juicy and mouth watering pizza ???

Well ,look no more !! I have been and still am on a similar search and will guide you to restaurants with the most amazing , mind blowing pizza's from around Dubai...
